Chicken Dance

A couple of weeks ago, Buzzy and I were out checking on our two remaining chickens and the hen was missing. I opened up their coop/dollhouse and she was perched high up on the nesting ledge. We have a little door that opens to where you can see directly in on the nest and sure enough she was sitting on eggs. Eight to be exact. She has set and set and set and set. We haven't seen her out of the coop but a couple times since we found out what she was up to. I was hopeful that we would hatch chicks, but doubted it would actually happen.
Today, we were out in the yard and Buzzy noticed that she was out of the hen house. Buzzy and I saw the chicks at about the same time and he went running. I walked super swiftly! Sure enough she had two little chicks following her around and another inside of the house. It was having a terrible fit because it couldn't figure out how to get out!
After oohing and aahing for a bit, Buzzy lost interest and went about his business. I decided to look in the nest area to see if there were anymore. Sure enough, there was one more runty little chick, still wet from the egg. I put it out with the others, now wishing that I had let it be. It was having a hard time getting going, but I hope tonight it will get stronger. When I checked right before dark, she had settled on the ground with the four little chicks snug as bugs underneath her. They were so darn cute. I wasn't planning on adding anymore chickens to our flock, but I guess this will be okay!

Long Time, No See!

Hello to my blogging friends - I think there are two of you! Sorry I've been missing for some time. This pretty weather has kept us busy and my blog has been neglected. I PROMISE to do better...maybe ;-)!

As you know, I have started sewing and loving every minute of it! I just can't get my priorities in order. I would rather sew than clean, do laundry, cook supper, ya know all of that REAL domestic stuff! I have finished one quilt, but started several others! My grandmother's is just waiting for me to quilt it and then it can go home to her. I plan to start posting picture, (GASP! WHAT!?!), of my projects!

So here is the most recent finished project. My friend Kim had twin baby boys the first of this month. Of course, I never deliver gifts on time, so she will be receiving these sometime before their first birthdays! I have finished the blue baby quilt and have the red one to do. These were very easy and I could have finished one in one afternoon, but.... Steve and Henry didn't agree with my idea of Sunday afternoon fun!

These quilts are so soft! It has chenille squares on the front and the entire back is chenille. When I showed it to Steve, he wanted to know why his quilt didn't have that "soft stuff" on it! Guess he'll be getting another. I am participating in a Quilt Festival at http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2010/05/bloggers-quilt-festival-spring-2010.html. I wish I knew how to get her cute logo uploaded, but I haven't figured that one out yet!

IT FINALLY WORKED!!!

This wil eventually become the second quilt. Hopefully I can get to it sooner than later, so these don't end up being birthday presents!

For those of you that care nothing about my latest obsession, this is a little HI fro Henry! Thanks to the sunbrella on his new sandbox from MiMi, he got to play in the downpour while Steve and I watched from inside the house. Henry would wave and blow kisses and say cheese until the thunder rumbled! He was done then! His little legs couldn't get him in fast enough!

Buzzy was surprised with some special graduation gifts and wanted to send Thank You notes. He did a great job with his writing. He told me what he wanted to say, I wrote it, then he copied it into his cards.

Stay tuned! More crafty stuff to come!

Steve's Quilt

Steve tried out his quilt tonight! It's almost done! As Steve says when I ask if his car is ready for the race, "All I like is finishing up!" I have worked my little self to death trying to "finish up!" My NaNa has one lesson left, then I can wash it and turn it over to it's new owner! The pattern called for 6 squares x 6 squares. Since Steve is so tall, I had to customize it for him! His quilt is 5 squares x 8 squares! I had to make sure his tootsies stay covered!

Just don't get it.

Last week I had to work everyday, but Thursday. I managed to clean my house and keep it that way, scrapbook a single page and then a double for each of the boys, start and finish a quilt top, make supper almost everynight, except the weekends, and finish the first page of Henry's quiet book. (was that a run-on sentence or was that a run-on sentence?!?) Now I have been back to SAHM for two days and my house is already a wreck, no supper, laundry way behind. I think I need to go back to work to get more done at home. This just doesn't make sense to me.

Another week

March is National Craft Month and I have started it off with a bang!

3-1 - Steve gave me an antique quilt for my birthday four years ago. It is heavenly! It has that soft, been washed to death texture. It's the quilt that the three of us want whenever we are chilled. It's the perfect size for snuggling up to watch a good movie or the race. This being said, it has started to show major signs of wear. I have been thinking about making a quilt for quite some time, but........ So with the well-being of my favorite quilt at stake and this month being National Crafting month, now seemed to be the perfect time to get that quilt underway.

3-2 - My first row of my first quilt EVER! I have told Steve that this is his quilt. It's hard to find "pretty" manly fabrics. This collection is called Happy Camper and it's as manly as it's going to get!

3-3 - I can't sew for long without having to stop to do surgery on my stupid machine!!!
*****finally figured out that not only have I been sewing with my bottom thread going the wrong direction, but I have ALSO had the top thread ran through the wrong guide. My NaNa said it's a miracle that it's sewn as good as it has! Yeah, my curtains were sewn with my machine set up bassackwards!!!!

3-4 - Not only does he have to hold my hair when he's sleepy, but, lately, when he's just hanging out watching TV too.

3-5 - Buzzy has been persistent about wanting a map for his room. He didn't want just any map; it had to be like the one that is in his classroom at school. Steve & I took the boys to eat at Red Lobster and then to Office Depot for a map. Steve & Buzzy enjoyed looking up all the different places that they watch on TV.

3-6 - It's almost that time again. Steve has been working, working, working on his car.

3-7 - Buzzy already misses the snow!

This week...

I have been a huge slacker with my picture taking this week. I did take a few, so here are my favorites.

2-22 - Henry loves to help make up my bed. He hands my pillows to me and then jumps up on the bed to destroy my freshly made linens. Today while I was trying to capture him in action, he layed down on his belly, posed and said "Cheese." Yes another word! I think his vocabulary consists of 4 or 5 words now! He's talking more than Buzzy did at this age, but when Buzzy started, he's never stopped!

2-23 - It's naptime when Henry climbs in the recliner with two plugs - one for me, one for him - and a handful of my hair!

2-24 - Buzzy made a birthday card for Ryan's girlfriend. He was really proud of his creation!

2-25 - I love Henry's eyelashes. Both of my boys have eyelashes that little girls are going to love!

2-26 - The kindergarten has FRY words that they work on each week. At the end of kindergarten, they are supposed to have mastered the first 100. On February 5th, Buzzy's teacher sent his FRY word assessment sheet home saying he had already mastered the first 100. She included the next two units - 200 and 300. Today she sent home his practice sheet for the second hundred. He knew all of them but 5! It has taken him only a couple weeks to almost master the second unit! Next week the class will be working on unit 8, but Buzzy was sent home worksheets to practice unit 20! Yeah, I guess you could say I'm proud!

2-27 - I guess this is brag on Buzzy week! Buzzy's class has writing prompts where the teacher writes part of a sentence and then each student fills in the blank. This prompt was "If I went fishing I would catch....a shortfin mako shark. (I think I spelled that right.) Buzzy wouldn't catch a fish, turtle, or old tire. He wouldn't even catch a normal shark. He would catch the shortfin mako shark! He is such a sponge. He has soaked up all the information about the different sharks in the book that he chose at the book fair!
2-28 - I am going to attempt to create Henry & Buzzy a quilted quiet book. This could be interesting!

Henry's Funny Faces

He wasn't sure what I was doing sitting in the floor with the camera!

But it was really funny!

Made him scream!

The flash was too bright!

Ninnie's Party

Happy Birthday to the best Ninnie ever! She had her birthday party at the famous Top Of the River in Gadsden, Alabama with her family and friends. Poor Ninnie was cursed with four grandsons and just one girl, so she loves having girls around. Girls rule, boys drool! Her real granddaughter wasn't able to attend, but Ninnie gets to spend all of next weekend with her.
Ninnie with her grand-daughters-in-law, one that will be soon, and one that I'm hoping stays around for a while! That's Ashleigh Ashley, Beau's wife, Rita, Ryan's friend, Ninnie, Loren, Dave's fiance, and her favorite, me! Sorry Loren, it's true!

Ninnie and Buzzy were posing for a very special picture together. Did I mention that she LOVES me?
I love Dave. When he gets my camera, I never know what kind of surprise I'm going to find. There is always the pictures of him -

But this time, he captured a special picture.

Gotta love Dave! I'm so glad he's not 15 anymore.

This week

2-15 - My flowers from the boys were so pretty

2-16 - Henry always makes a mess and then is anxious to help with the clean-up.

2-17 - Steve started my floor!!!!

2-18 - Buzzy says he's going to work for LEGO when he grows up. He wants to be a designer for them.

2-19 - Henry has started putting things in, not only his mouth, but now his ears. Great.

2-20 - Ninnie's 80th birthday party.

2-21 - Henry loves his MegaBloks. He was making so many funny faces for me, but this was my favorite because he was laughing out loud!
